Privacy Policy

What we collect

Fayo only collects what can change your career recommendation, or what you choose to give us to personalize your experience. Specifically:

• Your education level and district in Kerala.
• Your birth month and year — asked once, on your very first screen, purely to compute your age. Only the resulting age number is stored; the birthday itself never leaves your device. See How we check your age.
• Your name, gender, and school — asked early in the flow so we can personalize your result and (for school-pilot cohorts) build an aggregate insights report for the school. None of these are used to score your career matches, and none are required to see your result.
• Your answers to the assessment questions, and anything you optionally add in the free-text reflection or “existing plan” field.
• After you see your result, and only if you choose to give it: how you heard about Fayo, and a phone number for WhatsApp milestone reminders. Both are optional and asked separately from seeing your result.
• If you choose to save your result: an email address, used only to send a one-time login code.
• If you are 13 or older: anonymous product-usage events via PostHog (which screens you see, which buttons you tap, whether the assessment was completed or abandoned) — used to improve the product, never sold, and never includes your name, answers, or contact details as event data. If you indicate you are under 13, PostHog is never activated on your device.

We never ask for your marks/grades, precise location beyond district, religion, caste, or any proxy for them, unless you volunteer them in free-text (which we ask you not to). Crash reporting (Sentry) is not currently active in the app; if we turn it on in a future release, it will be gated by the same age check as PostHog and never sent for a device that indicates an age under 13.

How we check your age

On your very first screen, we ask for your birth month and year using two tap-to-choose menus — never a stored default, never a pre-filled answer. We ask this once, ever, on that device. Only your computed age is kept; the birthday itself is never sent to our servers.

If you indicate you are under 13, the app runs in a stricter mode automatically:

• No analytics SDK (PostHog) ever activates on your device.
• The optional “save your result” and “WhatsApp reminder” features ask for a parent or guardian's email and number instead of your own, and require an explicit checkbox for the parent or guardian to confirm consent before anything is sent.
• The assessment, your result, and your roadmap stay fully available — nothing about the career guidance itself changes.

We ask for this because Fayo is used by people of many ages, and we want the app to behave safely and honestly for everyone without guessing.

How your result is generated

Your career matches are computed by a deterministic scoring engine running on our servers. A language model (Gemini) is used only to write the explanation in plain language — it never picks your matches and never invents institutions, exams, or salary figures not already in our verified database.

How we improve Fayo

When Fayo asks a language model to write something for you — your result summary, a roadmap, or an answer in Career Q&A — we keep a record of what we asked, what came back, and which version of our software produced it. If you rate an answer with a thumbs up or thumbs down, that rating is stored alongside it.

We keep this so we can find where our guidance is wrong and fix it, and so that Fayo can eventually run its own language model on our own servers instead of sending your questions to an outside company. These records are never shown to other students, and nothing in the app can read them back — they are written once and only our team can look at them.

This record is linked to your assessment session. If your session is deleted, these records are deleted with it automatically.

Reminders and notifications

If you allow notifications, Fayo can remind you about a step you said you would take, or about a Kerala admission date that affects the path you chose. You can refuse the permission or turn notifications off later, and the rest of the app keeps working exactly the same.

We deliberately do not send reminders because you have stopped using the app. There are no streaks, no daily nudges, and nothing that exists to pull you back in. A reminder is sent only when a date you set, or a date on Kerala's academic calendar, is actually near.

To deliver a reminder, we may store a notification address issued by your phone's operating system, along with whether the device is Android or iOS. This is an address, not an identity: it tells us where to deliver a message, not who you are. It contains nothing about your phone's hardware, cannot be used to recognise you in any other app, is changed by your phone from time to time, and stops working the moment you turn notifications off. No one using the app can see this list. If you told us your age is under 13, Fayo never registers a notification address at all and never asks for the permission.

Students under 18

Fayo's career assessment is primarily built for students from Class 10 onward, including working adults planning a switch — but the app is not restricted to any single age group, so we ask for your age (see above) and apply extra protections below 13. Taking the assessment and seeing your result requires no account — your name, gender, and school are asked early in the flow to personalize your result, but every one of those fields is optional and skippable, and none of them affect your career matches. You do not need a parent or guardian's permission to use the free assessment and see your result, regardless of your age.

If you give us a phone number for WhatsApp reminders, or an email to save your result, that data is tied to you (or, if you are under 13, to the parent or guardian whose details were given — see How we check your age above). If you are 13 to 17, please only use those optional features with your parent or guardian's permission, in line with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act. If you provide contact details without that permission and a parent/guardian asks us to delete them, we will do so on request — contact us at wuslateam@gmail.com.

Who sees your data

Your assessment answers and result are visible only to you (and, for the first 500 users, a human reviewer checking recommendation quality — never your personal identity beyond what you saved). We do not sell data to institutions, advertisers, or third parties. If you use the “Share” feature, only your top match and a summary are shown on the public link you choose to send.

A small number of companies process data on our behalf so the app can work. They may only use it to provide their service to us, and never for their own purposes:

• Supabase — hosts our database and sends the sign-in email if you choose to save your result.
• Google — its Gemini model writes the plain-language explanation of your result, as described above. It receives your answers, never your name or contact details.
• Expo — delivers notifications to your phone, and only if you allowed them.
• PostHog — counts which screens and features are used, so we can see where the app confuses people. It never receives your name, phone number or email. If you told us your age is under 13, nothing is sent to PostHog at all.

Your choices

You can use Fayo without creating an account — the result is always shown first. If you saved a result, you can request its deletion any time by contacting wuslateam@gmail.com.
